vrfy

A program which will verify an email address.

Vrfy is a program which will verify email addresses and mailing lists. Vrfy contacts the appropriate host and finds out if the address can be handled by that host. If the host can handle that email address, vrfy's output should show the remote host's interpretation of the address (possibly translated). If the email address is for a local user at that host, additional information about the user may be displayed.

Vrfy can also recursively expand forward files or mailing lists and can detect mail forwarding loops.
