vrfy

A program which will verify an e-mail address.

Vrfy is a program which will verify e-mail addresses and mailing lists. Vrfy contacts the appropriate host and finds out if the address can be handled by that host. If the host can handle that e-mail address, vrfy's output should show the remote host's interpretation of the address (possibly translated). If the e-mail address is for a local user at that host, additional information about the user may be displayed. Vrfy can also recursively expand forward files or mailing lists and can detect mail forwarding loops.
